Exhibition: Peter Meller and a graphic imagination

Péter Meller (1923-2008) art historian is presented from an unknown side in the exhibition. Few people know that besides his research, Meller had a passione for drawing and produced prints with a technique invented by himself. The current exhibition presents his most beautiful graphics: from his legacies and private collections, about seventy works can be seen in the graphic exhibition in the hall of the Hungarian National Gallery.

Book review: Fujiyama

Fuji is the most famous Japanese mountain, the symbol of Japanese beauty, the subject of admiration, it is nearly surrounded by religious devotion for its majestic figure. The mountain has stolen the hearts of many people even in ancient times. The series titled ”The thirty-six looks of Fuji” by Hokusai, the artist who created art in the first half of the 19th century, has become the work that modernized the ukiyo-e style landscape potrayal. Hokusai's work inspired the other great ukiyo artist, Hiroshige, to create his own series with the same title. The works of Hokusai and Hiroshige have become known not only by the elite of the time, but also to all social groups. It is well known that the bold composition and color scheme also influenced European painters, especially Monet, Van Gogh and 19th century Impressionists.

I hope that through the pictures of the two great masters of ukiyo-e, the pictures of the Fuji Hill and the ukiyo-e pictures will also appeal to the viewers by the pictures of the same great artist of the ukiyo, and also that the differences between the style and landscape representation will be revealed by comparing the works of the two artists.

The collection of their printing machines is unique in the country, and it's rare in the world, as all the elements in the printing systems work and most of them can be tried. In particular, they were striving for this at the purchase of each machine as they wanted not only a static exhibition, but a creative workshop where all the printing works and structures are really workable and can be tested. Printers and procedures were maintained in systems other than the other printing collections.

Exhibition: Specialties and rarity in the graphic collection of Szombathely Gallery

Friday, May 12, 2017 Meteora 0 Comments

The 3000-piece graphic collection of the Szombathely Gallery contains plenty of graphics that are rare due to the creator's personality, the theme of the work or the way of making it.
At the exhibition, there are about fifty artworks. Each image has a text commentary: an analysis or a story reveals why that particular work is classified as a special or rare work.

The selection includes the well known works of Aladár Almásy, Antal Diósy, István Fillenz, István Gellér, Giandante X, Ede Halbauer, Erich Hauser, Lipót Herman, Lajos Kassák, Leon Alex, Dora Maurer, Henry Moore, János Romvári, Péter Sarkadi, Pierre Székely , Péter Türk, Dezső Tandori, and Károly Vagyóczky among others.
